Why people love

Cicero

The Town of Cicero was formed in 1790, one of the townships of the Central New York Military Tract reserved for soldiers fighting in the American Revolutionary War. Legend has it that the name of the town— honoring Cicero, a Roman statesman— was assigned by a clerk who had an interest in classical studies. In 1827, the town was split more or less in half, with the western portion of Cicero becoming the present day Town of Clay. Oneida Lake, one of New York State’s nicest bodies of water, forms the northern border of Cicero. Boating, swimming, and water sports make up a large part of Cicero’s attraction for its numerous visitors and local population. Cicero also has a fairly large swamp named Cicero Swamp. The town consists mainly of wetland, forests, farms, beautiful historic homes, and modern housing developments. In 2007 the Stone Arabia School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cicero Library is home to the remarkable LibraryFarm community garden.

Aside from the great outdoor attractions, residents of Cicero enjoy great local fare, including longtime favorite restaurants and modern dining, fun shopping, and other entertainment destinations.
